Axel is a character who appears in a tiny (4-panel) strip that is tacked on to the bottom of the first "Loin of Beef" comic feature in New Comics #1. The "Loin of Beef" strip (about a knight errant) is nearly two pages long, but there was space left at the bottom of the second page. The space was filled with the 4-panel "Axel" strip. Although "Axel" is unsigned, it was almost certainly created by the same writer/artist who created the "Loin of Beef" strip: Robert Leffingwell. Like "Loin of Beef," the "Axel" strip is knight-themed.
