Michael Courtney was a college student who worked as an assistant football coach at Trace College. Courtney became interested in witchcraft when his chemistry professor introduced him to it. He joined the local college coven and recruited some of his friends to join him in the coven. He did this just for fun. But this was a big mistake! A powerful and villainous occult figure known as the "Master of Ceremonies" apparently had real occult power, and he corrupted the Coven by offering them real power. Courtney ended up involved with this being who unleashed evil powers that had horrible ramifications.
One of Michael Courtney's friends who he recruited into the Coven was the son of mobster Don Salvatore Cannelloni. This young man committed suicide as a result of the Coven's actions.
Realizing things were going terribly wrong, Michael Courtney enlisted the help of Kickers, Inc. to take care of the situation. But they were not able to use legal means to get rid of the Coven. So Kickers, Inc.'s leader Jack Magniconte let Don Salvatore Cannelloni take care of the situation.
