After seeing news reports about the return of Namor, the Sub-Mariner, Magneto wondered if Namor was a mutant. He reasoned that Namor would be a powerful ally, and so he decided to recruit the Atlantean king to join his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. But after witnessing an angry outburst by Namor, Magneto decided to approach him indirectly.
Magneto contacted one of Namor's palace subordinates, a greedy Atlantean who coveted power. Magneto convinced the Atlantean to persuade Namor to visit Magneto's island. Magneto told this greedy Atlantean that if he was then able to successfully recruit Namor to join the Brotherhood, then this subordinate Atlantean would then be able to take over as the ruler of Atlantis.
This Atlantean was indeed able to convince Namor to go to Magneto's island. But Magneto's attempt to recruit Namor to join him failed, and Namor ended up returning to Atlantis fairly quickly. The greedy Atlantean was not able to usurp power in any way, and he slipped back into obscurity.
