Note: laughed at song narrator when he fell into the snow
In the third (often-skipped) verse of "Jingle Bells," the song narrator describes how he fell into a snow drift. "A gent" was riding by in a one-horse open sleigh similar to the narrator's own horse and sleigh described earlier. The "gent" laughed at the narrator and quickly drove away. The verse is as follows:
A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow,
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.
