Powers: McCoy is an older and less moral version of our reality's bouncing blue Beast who came here from the so-called "Age of Apocalypse," where he was a researcher for Apocalypse. He was the Mengele of that reality, and only escaped its fate because the Quicksilver of that world changed his transporter coordinates from his escape route into the heart of the M'Kraan Crystal during the final battle between the X-Men and the forces of Apocalypse. McCoy ended up 20 years in our past, very confused and with little memory.

He was found soon afterwards by a young Emma Frost, who helped him regain his wits and re-orient himself in his new world, not knowing of his past evils. He is apparently responsible for the creation of the Morlocks and/or Gene Nation. As brilliant as our own Dr. McCoy, Dark Beast has created many constructs who work for him, among them Fatale and Random. He was behind the kidnapping and brainwashing of Havok, and for the kidnapping of Beast, whom he replaced on the X-Men, after modifying his own DNA to match Beast 616's look. Here the Dark Beast revealed his truly sick mind, as he lured Hank to him by killing off Beast 616's old acquaintances. Once the two met, Dark Beast sealed up his doppelganger inside a brick wall, and took his place on the X-Men.

However, he was then discovered by Onslaught, who revealed that he had blocked Beast's true nature from the other telepaths in the Mansion. Onslaught forced Dark Beast to work for him. Following Onslaught's defeat, Dark Beast was incarcerated, but was later released from jail by Havok, who allowed him to join the Brotherhood. When the Brotherhood disbanded after Havok revealed that the entire plot was a setup to stop McCoy's research, Dark Beast resumed his genetic manipulations full-time. McCoy also had a hand in creating the Psi-Ops, a corps of telepaths that were sent to capture Nate Grey, a prize possession whom Dark Beast believes should work for him. He also fears Sinister, and goes to great lengths to keep himself from being noticed. McCoy has some as yet undetermined connection to the New Son, a crime boss for whom Gambit does some "work." He then led the Gene Nationals, and a short time ago got into a brawl with Generation X and X-Man, during which he used a robot called Wynter as a remote combatant.

Recently, the Dark Beast showed up on Genosha during a battle with Magistrates. He succeeded in downing all of Prof. X's team including Magneto before getting routed. Later on the Magistrates were brutally murdered by the Sugar Man and Dark Beast was severely injured. He was in the care of Callisto, but his fate after M-Day is unknown.
