Until being deposed after coming into conflict with the Fantastic Four, Ternak was the tyrannical leader of the Cold People. This was a hidden race of people who obtained technology from a Tibetan Buddhist monk known as "Master" approximately 500 years ago. The Master's technology could turn the Cold People into regular-looking humans.
Ternak's people, the Cold People, were also known as "The Chosen", "Snow Creatures", "Yeti" and "Abominable Snow Men."
The Master, a religious Tibetan monk and mystic, tutored the Cold People. He was a true spiritual leader to them. Most of the Cold People were very peaceful, but Ternak led a break-off group that desired to freeze the outside world in order to conquer it. Presumably Ternak was raised with the Master's peaceful Tibetan Buddhist teachings, but he willfully rejected these teachings. It is likely that he felt some type of racial pride and regarded the Master and his pacifistic teachings as "outside" influences, despite the fact that the Cold People had followed these ways for hundreds of years.
