General Fang was the central villain in a 13-page story appearing in the 5th-ever issue of the original Incredible Hulk series. General Fang's brief entry in the Master List of Jeff Christiansen's Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe describes General Fang simply as "Chinese Communist." This seems apt. Fang seems fairly dedicated to conquering the peaceful principality of Llhasa (Marvel's stand-in for Tibet in this story) for the Chinese Communist regime. General Fang is pointedly portrayed as a religious skeptic in this story. While Fang's soldiers are identified as "superstitious" and believe in the Yeti (whom the Hulk disguises himself as), the General himself does not believe in such legends or superstitions. As far as can be determined, General Fang is an orthodox Communist who subscribes to the official atheistic teachings of China's Communist Party. But beyond his disbelief in local superstitions such as the Yeti, Fang's precise theological and religious beliefs are not explicitly addressed.
