This publication is also known as: Exiles (vol. 2) #1.

This is the first issue of an Exiles series that will run for 100 issues. This is the first Exiles series published by Marvel Comics, and so the convention is to refer to this as Exiles volume 1. But Marvel at this time had already purchased Malibu Comics, which previously published a four-issue Exiles limited series. Malibu characters were folded into the broader Marvel Universe, although they on a different Earth in the multiverse (the "Ultraverse" instead of Earth-616).

Because Malibu's earlier Exile series featured characters which were now part of the Marvel Universe, it might seem reasonable to regard that earlier series as Exiles volume 1 and this new series (beginning in 2001) as volume two. That would make this issue "Exiles (vol. 2) #1." But that is not the convention other archival sources have followed.
