As with many nursery rhymes, the precise origins of "Little Miss Muffet" are unclear. Some claim it was written by Dr Thomas Muffet, who died in 1604, about his step-daughter Patience.
The nursery rhyme was first printed in 1805 in Songs for the Nursery, but it is thought to have been written long before then.
